A Brief Introduction to Tarot

If you're new to tarot, here's a quick overview to help you get started:

A standard tarot deck contains 78 cards divided into two sections:

• The Major Arcana (22 cards): These cards represent major life themes, archetypal energies, and significant turning points. Cards like The Fool, The High Priestess, and The World speak to the big picture of your journey.
• The Minor Arcana (56 cards): Divided into four suits (Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles), these cards address the everyday situations, emotions, thoughts, and practical matters of daily life.

Tarot is not about predicting a fixed future — it's a tool for reflection, helping you gain clarity on your current situation, explore different perspectives, and connect with your own inner wisdom.

How to Start Reading Tarot with the Big Mice Tarot

Step 1: Get Familiar with Your Deck
Before diving into readings, spend time with your cards. Shuffle them, look at each image, and notice what feelings or thoughts arise. The Big Mice Tarot's charming illustrations make this exploration especially enjoyable.

Step 2: Start with a Simple One-Card Pull
Each morning, shuffle your deck while focusing on the question: "What do I need to know today?" Draw one card and sit with its imagery and meaning. This daily practice builds your intuitive connection to the cards over time.

Step 3: Try a Three-Card Spread
A classic three-card spread is perfect for beginners. Lay three cards in a row representing: Past | Present | Future or Situation | Action | Outcome. Read each card individually, then consider how they relate to each other as a story.

Step 4: Trust Your Intuition
While learning traditional card meanings is helpful, tarot is ultimately an intuitive practice. What does the image on the card make you feel? What story does it tell you? Your personal response to the imagery is just as valid as any textbook definition.

Caring for Your Tarot Deck

Many tarot readers develop rituals for caring for their decks:

• Cleansing: Knock on the deck three times, pass it through smoke, or leave it under the moonlight to clear old energies between readings.
• Storage: Keep your deck in a cloth pouch, wooden box, or wrapped in silk to protect its energy.
• Intention: Before each reading, take a moment to set a clear intention and ground yourself.
